And found what we were looking for in the Port Charlotte PMC:01! This extremely fine single malt whiskey combines the best of Bordeaux's red wine world and the Scottish whiskey tradition. As the sixth bottling in the Cask Exploration series, the Port Charlotte PMC:01 matured in precious Pomerol barrels. These come from the outstanding Pomerol growing region, which is located northeast of Bordeaux and produces the best red wines in France. After a complex distillation, the whiskey was first matured for four years in bourbon barrels before being transferred to the popular Pomerol barrels for the last five years. There it acquired its special variety of aromas and complex taste profile. In addition to the already familiar whiskey aromas, the Port Charlotte PMC:01 also develops a beautiful sweetness of malt sugar that harmonizes perfectly with the peat smoke. The quickly waxy consistency of this spirit demands your full attention and lets you enjoy every single sip intensely. This 10 Years Old Tawny Port from Qunita dos Murças matures for 10 years in oak barrels, which gives it its amber color. It has a wide range of aromas to offer: nutty notes of hazelnuts and almonds as well as figs and vanilla come to the fore. The taste of the tawny is very soft, thanks to the residual sweetness that it retains. It is elegant, with a well-balanced acidity. This wonderful pleasure has a long finish that is worth remembering. A port wine that leaves nothing to be desired. To make the port wine, the grapes are harvested, de-stemmed and crushed. This is traditionally done in so-called "lagares", granite troughs in which the grapes are gently crushed on foot. The must then ferments in barrels until the fermentation is stopped with the addition of wine distillate. This is what sets the port wine apart and gives it a higher alcohol and sugar content than normal wines. This tawny is then aged for at least 10 years. Like many other ports, this is a cuvée of different wines, from different locations and vintages, so that it continuously maintains its quality.

Yes, that's what the Rheingau tastes like! Anyone who has ever had the Robert Weil Rheingau Riesling in their glass will know why this 30-kilometer-long freak of nature, through which the Rhine is briefly interrupted in its north-south course and meanders from east to west, is so famous for its Rieslings. With the Taunus at your back and the sun in front of you, everything that the king of grape varieties loves comes together here. In the case of the Weil Riesling, this also includes the excellent locations around the town of Kiedrich and the great know-how of Robert Weil. Produced organically and selected with the greatest care, only perfectly healthy and fully ripe Riesling grapes make it to the press. After spontaneous fermentation with the yeasts of the vineyard and a short mash, a gentle fermentation in stainless steel tanks follows. But wait: a small part of around ten percent is aged in large wooden barrels. This gives this fine Riesling a little more structure. In the glass, the Robert Weil Rheingau Riesling shimmers in a light yellow. Its fruit is crystal clear and juicy, yet ripe and so typical of the Rheingau, the Riesling and Robert Weil. The Baron Philippe de Rothschild Agneau Rosé is made from the three classic Bordeaux grapes Merlot (88%), Cabernet Franc (9%) and Cabernet Sauvignon. Super Superiore! When you hear the name "Asti", do you first think of the famous Asti Spumante, the sweet, white sparkling wine from Piedmont? Then you might be surprised to learn that the vineyards around the city of Asti are largely planted with red wine. The Barbera grape variety clearly sets the tone here. And not just in terms of area. Since 2008, Barbera d'Asti has had the status of a DOCG region, the highest Italian level for quality wines. But that's not all: A Barbera d'Asti Superiore, such as the one produced by the Villa Pani winery, goes one step further in terms of quality... "A Barbera d'Asti requires four months of maturation, whereas a Barbera d'Asti Superiore matures for at least 14 months," explains Stella Grasso. The young winemaker heads up red wine production at Villa Pani and, as a true Piedmontese, is very familiar with the region's peculiarities. "To give the wine more depth and flavor, our Superiore is stored for the full 14 months in small 225-liter barriques. The typical cherry fruit of the Barbera also comes out even better," Stella is sure. In fact, her ruby-red Superiore with its powerful fruit aromas invites you to enjoy it straight away. Piedmont cherry, plum, violet, basil and fine spices characterize the scent. On the palate you feel the stately body and great harmony. The combination of light red color, fine fruit, strong structure and enormous storage capacity is simply unique in the world of wine. It is no wonder that the impressive wines from the small municipality of the same name in Piedmont enjoy great fame. The Villa Pani Barolo from winemaker Stella Grasso provides you with a modern taste of its highest class. Stella has known the vineyards of Piedmont since she was a child. She comes from Canelli, which is about 30 kilometers east of the Barolo region. She studied oenology in Alba before heading out into the wide world. In Australia, Stella then became acquainted with a very modern, international red wine style, which she has been incorporating into the Villa Pani winery since she returned home. She matures the Barolo in barriques for an extra long time. "Unlike the large barrels, the small barrique gives the wine more of its soft wood aromas. This makes the taste rounder and the sometimes somewhat prickly Barolo accessible a little earlier," explains Stella. The Barolo from Villa Pani is stored in barriques for an impressive 38 months before it is bottled.The wine appears very classic in the glass: a light garnet red sparkles at you. The typical cherry fruit and fine spice notes are immediately present on the nose, accompanied by delicate caramel aromas. On the tongue, the Barolo then positions itself with a powerful body and juicy tartaric acid. In fact, the structure is very polished, despite the present tannins. The long finish reveals fine vanilla notes.The young Stella, that much is clear after tasting, combines tradition and modernity in the best way in this Barolo.
