Super Superiore! When you hear the name "Asti", do you first think of the famous Asti Spumante, the sweet, white sparkling wine from Piedmont? Then you might be surprised to learn that the vineyards around the city of Asti are largely planted with red wine. The Barbera grape variety clearly sets the tone here. And not just in terms of area. Since 2008, Barbera d'Asti has had the status of a DOCG region, the highest Italian level for quality wines. But that's not all: A Barbera d'Asti Superiore, such as the one produced by the Villa Pani winery, goes one step further in terms of quality... "A Barbera d'Asti requires four months of maturation, whereas a Barbera d'Asti Superiore matures for at least 14 months," explains Stella Grasso. "To give the wine more depth and flavor, our Superiore is stored for the full 14 months in small 225-liter barriques. The typical cherry fruit of the Barbera also comes out even better," Stella is sure. In fact, her ruby-red Superiore with its powerful fruit aromas invites you to enjoy it straight away. Piedmont cherry, plum, violet, basil and fine spices characterize the scent. On the palate you feel the stately body and great harmony. The must is then fermented slowly and coolly, allowing the natural fruit to fully develop. After fermentation, the wine is gently aged in wooden barrels and stainless steel tanks with long yeast storage. Pinot Blanc from Devon Slate It may come as a bit of a surprise that the world-famous Dr. Loosen Riesling winery also has a Pinot Blanc in its ranks. However, anyone who tries this wonderfully refreshing white wine will quickly be surprised and delighted. The stimulating, mouth-watering nature of this Pinot Blanc is simply mouth-watering! The sweaty work on the steep slopes is not noticeable in the finished wine. As everywhere on the Middle Moselle, the grapes for the Pinot Blanc are picked by hand and transported through the rows of vines in baskets. The vines grow on red Devon weathered rock and enjoy many hours of sunshine thanks to their exposed south-facing location. The high-quality harvest is carefully vinified in the cellar before maturing in large wooden barrels. In the glass, the Dr. Loosen Pinot Blanc is light yellow with green reflections. The nose is beguilingly fresh with exotic and local fruit notes such as grapefruit, apple and vineyard peach. The elegant minerality can also be clearly tasted, which also penetrates the palate.
